THE
DANUBIAN BANK<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Danubian Bank (DB) <\/em><\/strong>is an artistic project that creates reflective relations towards the tacit knowledge of economic transactions through the issuing of community currencies.

In early 2022 it will launch the St\u00f6rling and Grundl currencies, which can be used at the institutions listed below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St\u00f6rling bills currently in circulation<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The St\u00f6rling is pegged to the Euro (1ST = 1\u20ac) while the Grundl is a non-fungible coin that can be acquired through a free donation and functions as a substitute for the cents.

Both currencies can be acquired at certified Exchange Offices (listed below) and will be in circulation until January 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mission<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00a9 Life Sterlet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

50%<\/strong> of the acquired value of the currencies will be donated to the Life Sterlet Project<\/em><\/a> in Vienna. The aim of the project is to strengthen the wild population of the sterlet and to re-establish healthy, self-sustaining populations in various sections of the Danube.

The other 50%<\/strong> will be spent in internal Danubian Bank community projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project creates a basis for critical reflection about our relation to money and currencies. Beyond that, the St\u00f6rling and Grundl foster awareness around the Sturgeon fish and are a mode of project funding. The Danubian Bank did officially open its first exchange office on the 13th of January 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The St\u00f6rling will be distributed by certified offices and can be used by a network of actors that accept it. These actants can exchange the bills at a certified office or the central bank for Euros 4 times in the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Team & Community<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The main collaborators are the CDS Department at the university of applied arts<\/a> in Vienna, Technologie und das Unheimliche<\/a> and the ado\/aptive collective<\/a>. But the Danubian Bank is always open for collaborators and is constantly expanding its network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Danubian Bank is currently looking for partners that would be interested in distributing or accepting its currencies as to increase its societal reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
